I've got a pair of Minn Kota Deckhands (model DH40) on my boat and have had no problems in 3 years of using them. They will handle up to 40 lb anchors.

willbreaku,I have a BPS fishermen anchor on back and a BPS big water anchor with free fall down on front. I took a piece of pipe and pour lead in it, it buries in mud and do not need to let out much line.

Nope don't need a winch. That's the only reason why I allow someone else to fish with me

Has anyone ever mounted one of these Minnkota deckhand anchors on a fiberglass boat? I would really love to have one on my Skeeter boat but the shape of the fiberglass sides being at 45 degree angle at the top won't allow the hang down anchor holding part to work. I would have to have some kind of a adapter bracket. Anyone have any ideas on how to mount one on fiberglass boat sides?

The great thing about a winch is it acts as a storage locker for the line and anchor. No stuffing a wet anchor and line, in a below deck storage locker. Then having dry it out at the end of the trip.
