    Default Favorite size to eat.

Been eating crappie all my life, but I'm curious to know what other folk's favorite size eatin' fish is. I'm sure a few of you are like my pappy was and wanted a few whole ones now and then.

I am a true advocate of "Size Doesn't Matter" so I'll eat ANY crappie, that doesn't eat me first and I tip the scales at 360# so that'd be a mighty big crappie! Now I will say, a crappie of 11 1/2" to 12" filets MUCH easier and quicker IMHO, but they all eat pretty darn good.

I prefer a 16 incher. Any plate smaller than that means I'll have make too many trips back through the line.

now Wannabee.....You know you only catch one fish per fishing trip and you really don't care about the size as long as its over 12 inches.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I would have to say 11 to 12". Any larger than that the fillets are to thick.

I don't keep any crappie (or perch) that are under 11". IMHO it's just not worth cleaning them. On my lake that means I keep 1 out of every 3 fish caught.

On a related topic, has anyone ever tried grilling crappie? Seems like the flesh is just too delicate and would fall apart on the grill.

I prefer cooking the 12"+ fish, especially since reading the thread about cutting the fillets into fish sticks.Thumbs Up

I like a fried filet that is a "three biter" I usually cook my my bigger fish in a pan with a little butter. As far as grilling, there are several grilling basket or wire frames that can be used for fish. Here's something I tried with some smaller fish for folks that like a whole fish but don't wanna deal with all those bones.

I like 14 to 16" where I get filets big enough for my wife to put in the George Foreman grill with some lemon pepper seasoning. I don't east much fried food.
