Anyone from down around Ala. willing to share a little info about the lake, such as old maps of the standing timber on the river ledges. I heard there were some reel thick standing timber that was cut back 6 foot under the surface.

Yes you are right about the standing timber or the lack there of. It was all cut well below the surface. You can find good maps of the lake on line or at most Wal-Marts. Most of the timber did indeed follow the river channel, so a map would put you on the cut timber. Several creeks feed into the river and these creeks are lined with stumps. So structure is not a problem to find.

I appre. the info "speedy", we will be coming down the 2nd week of May for the cusa regional. From what I hear the river is where I'll need to fish for the post-spawn cappie.
