Crappie do some wierd things in some of our local lakes. They will head up creeks when the water temp drops into the 40s chasing the shad. Met up with a buddy Saturday and had a limit of 25 in an hour and 15 minutes. Deepest part of the creek is 7', fish were on the breakline at 4 1/2'. Only kept 11" and larger. Jig was blue head, white deer hair body in 1/8th, wtr temp 47, air temp 37-41.

I've been on a similar pattern myself. Then these last fronts iced the creeks over :( Now we've had a warm-up and I'll just have to give it a try. I sure like them creek fish, they're fat like me and taste better. Good job

I was on the wagon, but I've got to find another way into the creek. I'm too old to try and drag that thing up a steep. muddy slope. Going in the boat tommorrow.

They seem to do it more in the creeks that are in the upper in of a lake in my area. How about in your area?

Seems lakes have a life of their own. Some lakes in our area, the crappie will swarm to the creeks and in others they tend to go deep. I fish 4-5 lakes pretty regular, the creeks are good winter fishing in 3 of them. The other 2 may be good but I can't find them in the creeks.

Ice cover finally broke with the rains and got to fish my creek again last evening :) Sure enjoyed myself and the fishing was more like catching. bash I didn't feel like keeping and the fish knew it, it was a carnival ride for them. I didn't catch anything over 12" but I had plenty of action. Fish were about 2-3' down in a big logjam, right on the edge hanging over the channel. I use a little bobber to get out where the 10' can't. Thumbs Up
