bank fishing?

how many of u guys fish frm the bank during fall and winter? adn how do u fish? and wat setup do u use?

I did a little bank fishing on Friday (warm 55-degree day for northern IL) to kill time.

Killing time is about all I accomplished. I could only cast out to about 5-6 feet of water depth...and I suspect the fish have moved to deeper parts of the lake. Used one rig for cast-retrieve and another with a slip-bobber. No luck.

you might do a bit of good this time of year if you can cast out close to a bridge or other structure... I mostly stick to docks....prefer heated ones...LOL

Might be hard, if you cast out a crankbait and pull it back, it's trying to go deep as the water is getting shallow toward the bank. Only place it might work is around a dam or a bridge.

I've never done it, but I've heard of it. Spence Petros had an article in Fishing Facts where he talked about how he did it. It's not complicated. He just let out a fixed amount of line (12-15', if I remember correctly), threw his bait in the water, and walked around the bank, dragging the bait through the water. He said it was pretty effective.

Back to your original question, I fish a lot from the bank. I mostly use a float. I look for spots that have good access to deeper water.
