I've never fished them but if I did I would fish them vertical and work around the outer edges and gradually work my way towards the center.

Start outside swimming a jig, swim a jig over the top, then work my way down. I try my best to stay off it, but I'll get over the top of it and jig if I have to. My main concern is to never get hung and if I do I'll lay that rod down and grab another. If I don't get em doing that I'll move on. The things I don't do are, idle over the top, throw heavy stuff down in it, jump around in the boat while I'm around it, etc. I'm not that good of a crappie fisherman so I'll use everything to my advantage.

I stay 10 yds or so off and cast a minnow under a cork past it and reel it back into the middle.
Tightline a jig straight down into em.

Yup.
Same way I fish brush piles, blowdowns, dock posts, standing timber, bridge pilings, etc. Rofl
That is to say -- I'd cast a weedless jighead/plastic body bait across it and swim it in/around/over/through the stakes, from every feasible angle Thumbs Up

I see the term "stake beds" a good bit, are you guys talking about artificial cover/attractants that you or somebody else has put together and sank to the lake bottom in some way?... Not sure what stake beds are... If I have ever fished those I didn't know what I was fishing.
