    Default What knot is this?

    Howdy to all from Texas!

I've experimented and learned to tie a quick, simple loop knot for my jigs and I haven't been able to find a name for this knot anywhere. Can anyone identify it for me? I guess you might call it an altered Rapala knot, altered Non-slip Loop, altered Kreh Loop, or altered Brubaker loop. It's similar to a knot by all of those names except instead of tying a cinch knot above the overhand knot, I used a Double Surgeon's knot. If any of you know the name of this knot, please let me know. Until someone corrects me I'm calling it Kellogg Loop since Kellogg is my last name.

I'm not sure of the strength of the knot, but I only broke my line with it once when hung on a snag I couldn't get loose from and then the line broke at the top of the knot. I can usually just straighten the hook when I can't get the hook loose. Whatever the strength of the knot is, I'd say it's at least 85% of line test strength. Below is a link to a slide show of some pics of the knot, with step-by-step how to tie the knot. I apologize for the poor quality of the pics. A photographer, I am not.

I tie direct to a tiny #2 "snap clip", available from Netcraft. Allows me to quickly change jigs, is very light and gives me a perfect loop in which to ride my jigs. Works for me!

It's not there or on any of the other sites I looked at with knots.

I only fish on days of the week that end with
a "Y" ...and then, only if it's raining or not.

I guess I'll call it Grandma's Loop since Granny Knot is already taken.
