Default Fun technique that's been working for me!

I made myself up some 1/64oz #6 "Perch Eye" ice fishing jigs. I've been tipping them with a minnow & using them under a slip bobber, but the crappie have been light biting and I've missed a lot of fish. I tied it on with a small split shot a foot above it, tipped it and tight lined it back. Man what a blast. I'd rather not use a bobber and feel the bite so this worked out well. They were slamming it on the drop. I'm going to play with some color combos and see if I can come up with "The One"! Here's a pic of the perch eye!

Looks like a nice set up. I would rather be tight lining it also, nothing better than feeling that tap and know one is on the end of the line. Some times you have to throw something different to get those picky fish to bite.

Nice looking jig, I too like to tight line better. I do find a bobber to be effective at certain times though.

Oh of course Pole Bender. There are times that bobber is the way to go. I was just sick of missing fish with them lipping the minnow. I switched to no minnow and they just plain wanted the meat!!! These jigs have a nice slow drop and that's what it seemed like they prefered.

I'm with you guys on the tight-lining....that thump is what it's all about!! Even if most of the fish want it sitting under a bobber, I'll have a rod rigged with something for tight-lining!
