Fish bearing eggs already...

Went out this morning and caught my supper. When cleaning the fish, I found several already with eggs. Bout that time though.

Same here, the bigger ones I caught today already had small egg sacks.

I see this every fall.
I think since fall conditions are so close to spring they don't know the difference.
They won't develope, usually, unless it heats up. They will just carry them 'till spring.

Scientific studies have shown that not to be true. I thought the same thing about them. Some will lay those eggs before spring. Had this argument with someone on a diffrent site and they showed me a study that was done that proved me wrong about that same thing. They spawn down south but not up north where the water remains colder longer. I'll post that article if i can find it. Believe it was in an in-fisherman mag last year or year before.

Forgot to add, have you ever caught 3" crappies in jan or feb where you fish? Wonder where they came from?

Just last year as a matter of fact. Like I said if the temp gets right they will lay.
It was in Feb in Livingston down by Houston where it stays pretty warm.

As soon as spawn is over they start growing larger eggs for the next year spawn. A few very small eggs always remain after the spawn too.

Been seeing eggs in some of 'em for close to a month now. Can see the sperm roe in the males now too.
