I dont think you will get anything to stick to the aluminum. The only thing would be Powder Coat them clear
Hey guys,I made me some rocket launcher style rod holders outta aluminum tubing for pulling planerboards for stripers. What should I spray them with so they dont oxidize??They are not glossy, just sorta shiney and I want to try to keep them that way.Dont want to spray the wrong clear stuff on em and it start flaking and peeling.I sanded/polished them a little on a lathe with emory cloth, but cant do that again because Ive got them welded up on a base..Thanks in advance for any imput...

if you're gonna powder coat, might as well be a color to match the boat.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
You can spray paint aluminum but there are steps you must take first, etch with a mild acid solution, prime first with zink chromate primer, then spray with paint of choice, epoxy would be best and hardest.

Both options mentioned so far will do. Not priming and painting is a nightmare to correct.

I would not do anything to them,as a certified welder ,I can tell you that the shiny that you see is not the alum.but the oxidation that you see ,all I would do is to keep them clean and they will shine.
The base metal is kinda a dull shine. When you want to weld alum.you have to take a small wire brush and brush the oxidation away for the metal to fuse and make a strong weld.Just mount to your boat and start dragging in the fishThumbs UpThumbs Up
Wishing ya`ll hard strikes and heavy stringers and slay those slabs
Acid etching works.
Thanks fellas for your imput.I just thought I could spray em with clear laccer or something to keep the "new" look.I guess I'll just leave em like they are and if they get to looking bad,I'll hit em with a scotchbrite pad. Heres a picture of one side of the holders, thanks again for the imput....sam
