Default Night Bite For Crappie has been Spectacular

I finally got a chance to post how good the night fishing has been over the last two weeks. My arms are tired from the never ending bite that seems to come shortly after dark. Here is some basic information of how we are getting them.

20 feet of water near structure (like a bridge) or at a big drop off in a channel.

Bait set 6" below water under bobber. Make sure your drag is set light. If you jerk to hard the shallow setting will have the bait and bobber flying overhead.

Nucli-Eye green led set center of boat. I must mention I have never seen so much forage under a light before in my life. There is literally thousands of bait fish popping and swirling all around this light lately. Crappie as well as pike smack the side of my boat as they pass through light chasing bait. I had one pike that almost made it inside my boat. Scared the poo out of me...lol This time of year its just incredible using underwater lights. The weird thing was, you had to stay 10' or more outside the lite ring to catch fish. You had no chance in the bait tornado. To much for the big fish to choose from.

Water temp at surface was 66 degrees.

Bait was a 2 inch red/chartreuse tube with 1/32 jig filled with crappie nibbles using bait pump.

It is so awesome to watch your bobber go under at night. One second it is there and the next....gone!

Anyway, give night fishing a try...I think you might be surprised how fun it is. However, be prepared to be up till the weeee hours of the morning. Why? Because the fish just never stop. Its also peaceful and beautiful being out at night.

I was only able to nightstalk twice this year, and both times it was nights with thunderstorms and 20mph winds, so I left early. In previous years, 100-200 fish nights were pretty common... and that is fishing by myself with 1 rod. I've never had much luck with plastics at night, and most of my fish come around 15 FOW 7' deep. You're right, it's a lot of fun and a good way to fill the coolers.

Seems like at 6" under the float, you'd see the fish take the bait.

We went a couple weeks ago. Tried 3 places, couldn't get anything to the light. Water is colder up here, I figured that's why we didn't see any baitfish. It was almost full moon, but still should have seen some minnows..
