Where do Crappie go at night??

I was fishing under a bridge with a floating light, with minnows, 7- 13ft of water. No bites, nothing!!

Probably shallower after bait, but what do I know. I only fish in the day time. But years ago we used to fish minnows on yoyos set near the surface even in winter at night.

From my experience, at night most crappie (black) travel the channel ledges within the magic depth (12-22') looking for food (shad). Esp. when they are feeding up during and after spawn, and fall before it gets really cold. Don't fish on a full moon though, save your gas. Full moons are terrible for the night bite. New moon phase is best, the darker night, the better. Oh, and look for channel ledges on points or where two main creek channels meet, those spots are dynamite at night. Good luck.

Great post Slab. I was wondering the same thing about where they go at night. Until now most of the Crappie fishing I have done was though a hole in the ice. The fishing will be good from sunrise until about 10 AM. the the Vexilar will just go blank. Definitely makes you scratch your head, the ice has looked like swiss cheese at times trying to find them at night. It's like they just disappear.

I would have thought they`d go to sleep after getting beneath the cover...seriously, das speck hunter is absolutely correct. Crappie are MORE likely to be active during the dark hrs.
