Question Need help finding an eletric motor ,PLEASE

Hey all, I am trying to find a used golf cart motor or something like it . And not have to pay - an arm , leg and kiddney for it. Most of our best Slab lakes here are Eletric ONLY. I just accuired an old , small outboard lower unit and need a powerful eletric motor to put on it. 24-48 volt . Anyone around here that has them wants WAY TOO MUCH . And their pretty hard to find . Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

    Good Luck,
    And good fishing !

What is wrong with like a used minn kota or motoguide?
It sounds to me like what your doing would be more work and expensive then to but a used electric motor. They have all kinds of sales on these at Wall-Mart, BPS and Cabelas. Most of the time they are last years models that would be perfect for what you need.
Perhaps someone on CC has a used one for sale.

Your project is intriguing to me. I'd be curious to see how you do it. I don't think you can get the rpm out of an electric motor to make all the work worth while. Let us know what you come up with.

I take that statement back about the RPMs. I found some new ones that go up to 5700 RPM. (48 volt)

Uncle Bob, off the top of my head this is the only place I can think of at the moment. There is not much hope of you finding a cheap motor. If you find a used one, you'll still probably need to put bearings and maybe brushes in it, which is costly. I think I would go the route that Fishermike gave you.

When I get back to work monday, I'll look to see if we any any other books to view. I rewind and rebuild electric motors, you are opening a can of worms.

    I have a 36V (750 watts I think) elecrtic motor or a 24V (350 watts) I think but I don't think they are water proof.

Here is the site I found http://www.cartszone.com/clubcarmotors.html
Then you would need a controller for it. Seems to me it would be cheaper to go with something like this. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...291&hasJS=true

    Hey all ,
This is what I want to build. Some of them are made locally , They are built with golf cart motors and just made to look real pretty. Most guys just build their own . you just replace the gas engine with the eletric motor on the gas powered lower unit and you have an eletric outboard . I have a 4hp minnkota that I use now but a boat with a golf cart motor on it blows by mine like its not moving. Some of the resivoirs around here are sooo big you cant go very far with regular trolling motors or you will be rowing back to the ramp. The people with these motors get the best parts 75%, of the lakes to themselves. Their is another "brand" of these motors called lakemaster . You can buy a nice used bass boat with a 150hp on it for the price of one of these motors. Most of our freshwater is (Drinking) water here , so NO gas motors . Thanks for the replys.

When I was thinking about building an electric car I found lots of electric motors on E-Bay.
Of course you would need to find one close so you can look at if before buying it.
