Just like hunter mentioned, it depends a lot on what methods you are interested in trying...

Minnow fishing.... Get light wire hooks, splitshot weights, bobbers, 2-8lb line.

Casting.... Get small jig heads, plastic tubes, curly tails, 2-8lb line.

Trolling.... Same as casting list and also get various crankbaits...

The list goes on and on but if you stock your tackle by what method you are going to use....it's alittle easier to break it down in what you need....

I do my best to try and not buy anything from wal mart. Especially fishing supply's. The only thing I have ever bought from there was some line and a jar of crappie nibbles. That was because I was in a pinch and they were open late. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with wal mart. It's just who I'am. Mostly though our wal mart does not carry the rods and reels that I use. Nore do they carry the baits and hooks I prefer.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

Thanks so much Rickie. I guess I am going to be trying casting and Minnow fishing. Since I am new here, I am going to be looking at lots of the great stickies!

You must have some of those great little old bait shops that you buy from!
Walmart is just so affordable compared to those bait shops. I am on a crazy budget.

Our Academy here has more crappie stuff then all the stores combined. They are even priced like Wally and some times better. You really need to get there.
