Kind of curious what is considered a trophy Crappie in your home state.
What gets a wow and what drops folk's jaw to the floor size crappie where you live. Here in Conneticut a two pound crappie is a really decent fish a three pounder will get you some wow's a three and a half or over will drop some jaws. State record is a 4 pounder.

Here in South Carolina the state record is 5 pounds 1 ounce. That is HUGE!!! Anything that is caught here over 2 pounds is really nice. I finally got above 2 pounds two weeks ago with a 2 pound 8 ounce slab. Boy that felt good!!
To make life enjoyable, you must have crappie days.

I'm from Mississippi and am happy with anything over two pounds- have caught several already this spring. But the sky is the limit on some of our lakes like Grenada, Enid, and Sardis where 3+ pounders are not that uncommon.

I have caught some really nice 18-19" crappie back in my home state of Texas, but all the biggest ones were white crappie. During our short stay in Florida, all the crappie here are black and if you get some over 17" thats a good fish. Sure miss those white crappie.....grandpa use to call them saddle blankets.

I my eyes a 2lb fish is a good fish.
A 3lb I would think about putting him on the wall.
A 4lb fish you would never get the smill off of my face.
    Let's go fishing.

I am from SC too , I MOSTY Troll & 2 pounders for a troller isnt that un comon at all esp if you are willing to travel to the lakes that hold Big Fish . This year I had a couple messed up Disk in my back & really was limited to fishing much at all & still caught at least 10 over 2 pounds I would GUESS , So even though a 2 Pound is a NICE fish , I would not call the taxidermist for anything UNLESS it is over 3 pounds BUT I have seen LOADS of fish Mounted that are UNDER 3 pounds. I just wouldnt mount one less that 3 , course I ONLY have one mounted either
