Minnows!!!
I recently put 2 dozen black crappie in a small spring-fed pond & have been feeding them small pellets that I feed fingerling rainbow trout.I'm not sure if they are eating the pellets. What should I be feeding them?
Minnows!!!
I'd recommend poison, and I'm not really joking. Crappie will quickly overpopulate a small pond beyond belief.
Red and White Jigs. Yes they will over run a pond very quickly. We have a small lake in our area (600 acres) The crappie are stunted to the point that you can catch 100+ and not have one that would be a 6" keeper.Beware!

"This one thing I know, and that is Jesus Christ and Him crucified."
Well that pretty much crashed my idea of getting some land and stockin a nice 5 acre pond w/walleye, crappie, and perch. Unless the walleye feast on the crappie...hmmmmmmmmmmm?
I'd rather be on the lake enjoying the thrill of my rod telling me there's a fish on the end of my line. :D

black crappie won't do too much damage as long as you target them.
That does happen but not always there are a lot of small ponds around here that has populations of nice crappie with some monsters mixed in, it seems that if the water is clear the small fish wont take over but if it is muddy they will.Like pstone said minnows that is crappie's#1 food just get some that will spawn in ponds like fatheads.

IF you have a Problem with too many Crappies , you could always just stock a few Blue Cats or Flatheads, that would take care of the Crappie problem in a hurry ! and most any other fish in the pond as well !!
Canned Corn. It will make them fat. Just like fattening a cow. Good eating:rolleyes:

The guys are right about the crappie over populating and getting stunted. We have a 4 acre pond on my dad's place that granddaddy put White crappie in years ago. About as big as they got was about 8", so we cleaned the pond out and restocked with Black Crappie. Now I don't know why but the Blacks are doing much better. We now have some fish that are bumping a pound and a quarter.
