Default How appropriate on a day like today.

I know this it OT, but today, I'm posting it here anyway.

My wife us up to run a 5k. It's actually a 3 Nautical mile run, just over 5K, and it took place today.

It was on the Great Lakes Naval Training Station here in Lake County Illinois. It is 10 years after 9/11, and the base is celebrating its Centennial this year. The singing of the Star Spangled Banner before the starting of the race was quite emotional. It bought a tear to my eye.

It was my first time on the base. I have driven past it a hundred times. We ran down around the base to the shore of Lake Michigan and back. They had a Naval Band that played. The weather was perfect, it was quite an event. I am so glad I went. I ran the 3 mile race proud to be an American, and feeling very grateful. Thank you very much to all those that serve, and those that have served.

I was a stationed a little ways south of there while at Ft Sheridan the last half of 1961 and early part of 1962.
