Crappie for dinner.....

Most fish we are around do not seem to be "quality" table fare right after spawning. Is this true of crappie also?
We had some pre-spawn fish for dinner a couple weeks back and they were prime. We have had some that were mushy before.....maybe post spawn?
Texture is a big issue around here with fish. :rolleyes:

PS - We always ice-down and fillet our fish.

Put them in water overnight in the fridge, and the meat will firm up.
