Using slip bobber rigs I like to use a heavier pound test line on the main line with a lesser weight test leader line on for the hook and sinker. Say 8 pound test line from the reel with slip knot, a bead, the slip bobber then another bead tied to a small swivel. Onto the swivel attach a short length of lighter test line, say 4 lb test, with the spit shot and hook. The lenght of your leader from swivel to the hook will determine the shallowest you can fish and fishing deeper is no problem.
If you get the hook snagged then theoretically if you have to beak your line you will only be loosing your leader split shot and hook. I find it less of a hassel if I only have to retie just the leader and the hook if I have to break off.
