thanks for the report. what did you catch your skippies on?
Put in at Pikes Camp and ran up To St. Thomas. Nice run at 6:30 in the morning. Catching wasn't very good. 10 dinky bass, 2 drum and 4 skipjack. Brought skipjack home and put in freezer for catfish. I finally gave in and fished for bluegill> Caught 17 and released them. Tried baitfishing for cats and couldn't give bait away. all was quiet on the water until about 12:30 then it let loose. Got back to ramp at 2:30 and it was crazy. Lot full and parking wherever. No economy problems there. Lots of NICE boats and jet skis.

whats a skipjack
skipjack herring. A long skinny fish with a small mouth. Good for catfish bait. They get to be good size for bait. We usually get them about 12".
I believe they are technically called blue-back herring. they look and fight a lot like a miniature tarpon. a few friends and I go down to tennessee every winter to catch them for catfish bait. except down there we catch em on crappie jigs or sabiki rigs, sometimes 2 or 3 fish per cast and they run from 1-3lbs. last feburary we caught around 500 of em in a day and a half of fishing. I wish they were bigger and more of em down at bagnal so I didn't have to run to tennessee to get em. ya ever really got into em down there?
ya, thats what I have found, too.
