Default Fun morning on the Grand arm

My oldest boy Cayleb and I hit Bucksaw yesterday and ran way up river. Passed by about 30 boats. We fished the flats and found the shallow fish again. Started at the channel on a tree row but never got a bite until we got in less than 12 ft of water. The better bite and fish was in 6-9 ft of water and just off the bottom. Did not take me long to switch to minnows when I was being outfished 3-1. Only had one over 12" but most were 10-11" range. Groups of trees and the bigger trees were better than the smaller single trees this trip. Just the opposite of last time out amd the minnows were the bait of choice over the jigs also. Cayleb used a slip bobber with gold hook and 1/8 oz weight and I tightlined with a 1/4 oz weight. Cayleb did catch a couple black crappie fishing under the balls of shad away from the trees. Fun day with the boy. Here is a pic of a couple of his fish.

Good job Jared.Glad to hear the bite is on up river.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
