Default Question: setting jig hook in plastic grub

    Warning: Stupid newbie question

When using a plastic grub with a curly tail, do you set the jig hook with the tail curling up or down? I've seen pictures of it both ways

People will swear that one way is the best way. But you gotta go out and try every thing. With that being said I was always taught to hook through the bottom with the curl upwards. But Ive seen through the top, bottom, side and nose. I saw recently they even put directions on the back of culprit packs saying that through the bottom provides the best action for Culprit curly tailed worms. So whats good for the goose is good for the duck.
I aint here to tell you anything. You want to know what Im doing....pm me and meet me on the lake.

I've found it is better for it to curl downwards, less likely for tail to get hung in the hook. Will still happen but not as much.

Cool Split those tails for more action

I love those curlys too, but splitting them gives more action and they like it.

I hook mine with the curl going up.

be sure to give yourself a good gap berween the hook point and the body.
I feed mine high on the back to do that.

I was taught long ago- by the best fisherman I know- that he always rigged it with the tail going sideways. So, one more answer to confuse you, I guess. :D That's the way I rig mine up and I've done well that way. I will admit, that BigMack has a great idea. I fish curly tails from a company called Jiffy Jigs (in Vidalia, GA) and their tails are cut into those 3 sections like his. There is a ton more movement compared to the single tail.

I think BPS, or Southern Pro makes this curly tail and call it a triple riple.

Well, as das speck hunter predicted we've got votes for up, down and sideways! I guess I'll try them all, along with Big Mack's suggestion to slice up the tail. Many thanks...and more newbie questions to come.
