Default Smithville Thump, Tug, Tug, Maybe?

Haven't been able to get out lately so I said screw it and went to Smithville Sunday afternoon for a few hours before my softball game to see if I can give myself a heat stroke. Fished the north end from about 1 to 4 using jigs and small minnows on flats in about 6 to 8 FOW fishing small hedge trees. My keeper to dink ratio was great even though I didn't catch many fish, I had 6 keepers and only 1 dink, smallest keeper was 11in and largest keeper was 13in with most being 12in. All fish slammed the jig/minnow combo, there was no doubt if you had one and could not get a bite from any larger hardwoods even if it was in that 6 to 8 FOW range they would not hit it. Water temp was 93 degrees and all fish were caught on pumkin/char jig with small minnows barely longer than the jig tail, they didn't hit the big minnows for whatever reason. This weekend I'll have to get out early and maybe fish further South for more numbers and avoid some of that afternoon heat! Not a great report but the quality of fish caught was great, I hope this helps anyone trying to fish the north end.

Good job Nightmare. Sounds like a good trip despite the heat
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

I was on an under cover mission dressed as a jig fisherman with a pole in each hand, I didn't want to be made with the spider rig set up. Kinda hard to miss the Bass Cat in tarantula mode creeping down a break line, LOL!
