    Default Kissimmee River

Hi there. Fished the Kissimmee River this morning. It was on the cool side and a little windy. We hit the water at 6:30 AM. We tie up to some cane and fished out in about 5 foot of water. We ended up getting 27 nice crappies. Had one that was 14" long. Caught then on a 1/32 Teezur jig, tip with a minnow. Had 2 colors that work best, orange & yellow and a white.
Going to try it again in the morning.

Now you're in my stomping grounds :D. I am usually on the Big Ditch from time to time. Haven't had any real good luck so far but with March and April here, I know its bound to turn on sooner or later . Are you at the North end? I'm more toward the South end.

Hi! I am at the south end, right before it goes into the Okeechobee lake.

    Hi Swanie,

I'm further north on the South end from you along with neighbor Frank in Highlands County. Thanks a bundle for the info. Will be hitting the Big Ditch this Friday with a fishing buddy.

Used the fly rod only today on the Big Ditch. Pearl Cypert's Minnow fly (jig hook) 4 feet below a VOSI (vertically oriented strike indicator) on the leader. Had hopes of some Specks on the Big Ditch with the this fly rod rig but ended up with 3 Bluegill, 1 small LMB (Largemouth Bass), and 1 large Mudfish (Bowfin). I still believe this particular fly rod rig will catch Specks when they are around and biting. My fishing buddy got a lot of nice sized Bluegill and one small LMB on a white Spongy Spider. No Specks today though and we weren't using minnows or jigs, just fly rods. I am wondering if the Specks are already starting to scatter after the spawn.

I tie this fly with pearl braid rather than the chenille and also pearl mylar tubing. I also use a 90 degree jig hook for use with the VOSI.
