I just went to a local sporting, outdoor show today and saw a real neat rod holder. First off, I don't have anything to do with the company. It may be a little on the pricey side, but it was a real quality item, but it comes with all the mounting hardware, not just the rod holder. It operated so smooth. If there is any downward pull on the rod, it won't come out of the holder. But as soon as you lift the rod up level the rod holder opens up and you have the rod in hand.. The pictures show how it works.
I meet the elderly owners and they have a small mgf. company that they are just trying to make a living with useful items for fishermen. They also had some nice bait buckets that were different also. One had a metal insert so that there wasn't any square corners for the bait to bang their heads on. Some baits have to swim in circles. They were using one as a small ice chest for drinks also. I think that they drove about 500 mile to come to the show.
