I was on Smithville from 7:30 to about 1pm. Tried the bluffs across from Hwy W launch first. Good shade but no crappie. Went to the "W" bridge over Owl Creek... usually a good place to avoid the "Smithville Skunk"... Didn't fail me. Surprised me, though.... Started vertical fishing the bridge supports with minnows... Nothing... Wind came up... friend fishing from back of the boat caught a couple on a minnow 4' under a slip float... away from the cement. Wind really picked up. Tried a minnow and a big #3 split shot, no float... cast downwind. BANG... Caught 8 1/2" crappie almost every cast... all 4-6' down... away from the bridge supports. Only 3 keepers but a lot of fun.

WOW! 1,000 posts... I'm a "General" now! Wish I had a crappie for every post.

Not many posting about the ol S Ville. The S stands for many things! ;) I havenít been any help lately with kids in sports. I havenít even been out since the spawn finished up.

Iíll try to get back after it soon but post up guys. I even like to hear complaining about the lake.

Shortstorie, that bridge it like that. I think the fish just like to funnel through there. We have caught many a fish away from the bridge and between pillars. You just have to watch out for the nuts like myself that fly under that bridge doing 60. White Flag Icon

One of these days I might even get the fishing boat out again. :)

I haven't been out much either. I'm thinking about grabbing the old crappie light and heading out Wednesday for a little night fishing. Might have to throw in a cooler with some cold beverages, just to stay hydrated....

We went Sunday morning, on at 6:30 am off at 9 am with 2 limits. Used minnows and fished the tree coves South of bridge, on main lake. 12-20 fow and we found most about 2 feet off bottom and a couple feet away from the trees. 4 fish over 12 in and nothing smaller than 10. Thought it was just going to be nice to get the boat wet, ended up with a raw thumb and fish in the freezer.

We normally do OK after the water temp hits 80 fishing the base of the trees. Not like Rodney or the rest of the Smithville Big fish boys, but we are fine with 10 and 11 inchers. Now we have to find fish on Blue Springs lake!

Took the kids yesterday but fishin didn't last long before we got into the water. Most of the day spent swimming and tubing. Caught a couple of shorts dippin trees north of w. They didn't seem to be close to the trees. 10 to 15 fow near bottom. No minnnows so that may be the ticket.

Fun day with the kids!Thumbs Up

Caught 7 keepers and a bunch of short fish this morning . Only fished for a couple hours and got off the water at 9:30 before the boat traffic picked up . Fishing timber in 20' of water 10-12' down with jigs . Released them all .

fishing was not banner but the quality made up for it. flats next to channels in less than 20 on the timber at 10-12 feet down, largest came in 8fow close to 20fow. no rhyme or reason on the color of jig but smoke colored seemed to dominate by a bit.

We had 25 keepers yesterday morning between the trees in the coves and the bridge (because of the rain). Used 5 dozen minnows and ended up with jigs and spoons in about 20 fow, 12-18 feet deep.

Fished up-river this morning and caught 8 keepers. One was 14 and one was 13 the rest were 10s and 11s. Sure is fun when the big fish slam a jig,"thump". Sounds like I should be staying south of the bridge.

I thought I may have seen a Fisher boat on the big water trolling some points? How did you all stay doing that when the Whites were thick enough to walk across??? You had to have seen them if that was you on Monday morning? Lee
