    Default Couple nice smallies pic

I took my father-in-law on his first kayak float fishing trip for smallmouth on fathers day. It was a somewhat slow day as we only managed to put about a dozen in my kayak, but we had a great time. For it being his first time in my tandem kayak, and first time fishing from a kayak, he settled right in. For almost 80 years old he did great. Sat in that kayak for 5 hours and ended up catching his largest smallmouth ever. A nice 17 incher. We kept a couple for him and ma to have for dinner and released the rest. Probably one of the best fathers days I have had.

It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

Yeah, these river smallies tend to bit quite a bit smaller then the ones we catch in the lake that the river flows into. That same fish just 2 miles farther down stream would probably be a good pound or more heavier. Still some nice slabs of good eaten from time to time. And fighting them in the river with the swift current is a riot compared to the slack water of the lake.
