    Default Slow trolling with crankbaits

I talked to a gentleman this afternoon that has had good luck trolling small crankbaits as well as jigs for Crappie. I did not get a chance to ask what type. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! Jim

The March issue of In-Fisherman has some info on that.

I think most people troll Bandits around here.

    Smile Trolling

Any number of lures will work really good, bandits are certainly a good choice, however Cordell super spots are absolutely deadly in my area (east tennessee), my favorite crankbait, other than the Cordell Spot is a Norman middle N, depending on speed and line out will run 8-16 feet deep. Color will depend on location, water clarity, etc.Biggest key is do not be afraid to experiment, I have hundreds of crankbaits and while these are my favorites, on any given day anything in the tackle box might work. Hope this helps, possum1

    Default crank baits

Dont forget the small size hot n tots, they work real well for me, and they produce plenty of vibration and flash to trigger suspended crappies. Only problem is flat head cats also like them.

Anyone doing the push thing with a Capps/Coleman type rig? I am thinking about running one pole with just one crank on it when I'm spider rigging off the front to see if it does attract bigger crappie. Anyone with using anything close to that?

I have had good luck slow trolling a Rebel Minnow for crappie. I replace the back hook with one a size larger. That seems to hook and hold a little better then the stock hooks they come with.

Off the front or back, how are you rigged?

I love to use the Flub Dub in 2 1/2 inch with the color of Shiner and Fire Tiger on Crappies. Check out there site at www.gapen.com There Ugly Bug is also hot on crappies. Good luck this year...
