Yesterday the Atchafalaya River was still high enough to flood the parking lot at the Berwick (Morgan City) Launch, but we managed to get the boat into the slip without getting water inside the truck and headed south.
Early on, blind-casting those infamous "Golden Rules" atop some shells in Atchafalaya Bay, we caught a few - including one 25-incher, but things were slow. So around nine we headed a little further east and stumbled across a progression of reds moving slowly along a sheltered shoreline. No signs of feeding, but EVERY ONE we got a decent cast on ate, and there were PLENTY of 'em! Finally decided to try a popper, and caught two on that! Tell me if sight-fishing for reds with poppers ain't a trip!
Anyway, I'm sure hoping that the flood coming through Nebraska and Missouri takes its time getting here. Fishing's too good for it to get busted up by a falling river!
