Headed to smithville tomorrow. Gonna take my little sister out. Probably about sunrise. Really craving a coconut crappie recipe that I've made a few times. Who's been out recently? What's been working for ya? Not sure where ill try first. Any suggestions would be great.
Have a good evening all,
Matt
It's been a week , but a friend and I limited out with some nice slabs up to 14" on the steep drops , just outside the spawning coves .
last Sunday we had more success with Minnows in the trees. We weren't getting many hits until we minnowed up. BUT....that doesn't mean it's the right strategy.
But it wouldn't be bad to have some along.
coconut crappie?!? Would love seeing that recipe. Good luck tomorrow.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
I'm looking forward to that recipe myself!
Well.....
Pretty tough day for me at smithville. Tried the trees at mouths of the deeper coves, drop offs outside the coves, in the trees up in a few coves, under W bridge. Ugh... Not a darn crappie all day. Tried double jig rigs, couple of colors. Tried jig with a drop shop hook w/minnow above it. Double drop shot rigs w/minnows. Countdown minnow. Nothing. Nice largemouth on accident. Got fed up and went to catch something Im better at: Explored the long shallow points with shad color money minnows that I keep in my jar of gulp, on a 1/4oz fish head spin. Caught 4 walleye, sister caught 2 and a drum. All walleye small though . 10-14 inches. At least we caught something I guess. One day Ill be able to limit out on crappie, one day.
Great water temp for swimming at the end of the day though.
Here is coconut crappie recipe for those who wanted it. I usually change the recipe a bit every time I make it. I also usually add 1/2 cup pancake batter mix to the flour. Hope you like it.
6-8 crappies
oil
1/2 c flour
Pepper & salt to taste
1/4 tsp ground ginger
3 egg whites
1 c shredded coconut
Heat oil to about 375, mix flour, salt, pepper and ginger. Beat egg whites till foamy. Coat fish with flour mixture and dip into egg whites. Pat coconut on both sides. Fry in oil turning once.
