When using stinkbait on summertime catfish in shallow water they hit it VERY aggressively so I mash down all my barbs for that or you retie almost every fish since they eat it so fast and deep. You don't lose any fish unless you give him slack in the line.

Pinch the barb down on all panfish hooks. A habit from finesse icefishing with very light line, easier/deeper hooksets and works just a well with slightly heavier lines in summer. Also tend to open the hook gap a bit, spit outs tend to be hook ups more often.

I don't. Never really thought about it much. I might try it when crappie fishing with minnows cause they swallow it 90% of the time.

Never been a problem, been doing it for decades. Actually get easier/deeper penetration and with the fishes natural instinct to resist/pull away, piece of cake, it's not going anywhere but into the frying pan. Trout fisherman have been doing it forever as well, quick, easy and safe hook removal. Rarely use live bait anymore, but isn't an issue with it either. Hooks shape holds it on more than a barb ever would
