going out Saturday night and see what happens ,, have not night fished ( for crappie ) in 5 or 6 years miss it ,, i have the right boat for it now 20 foot Carolina skiff lots of walking room ,, but back to fishing i know of allot of big brush piles so i am going to anchor over the top and see what happens should be good ,, will have lots of lights on top of the water and under neath ,,, will let you guys know how i do !

I recently tried this for the first time. I went to a huge gravel pit Ive fished for years and caught 37 on Saturday Morning. Saturday evening around 6PM I went back with a set up I just KNEW was gonna kill it.

I went to the same 6-8' of water flat I caught the fish on that morning and drove a 10' aluminum pole in the sand about half way between two piles that were hot that morning. I had screwed an eybolt to the top of the pole and hng a propane coleman lantern on it about a foot above the water. I lit that at dark.
I anchored the boat a short cast from the light and had a 12ft of pVC jammed straight out the side of the boat with a submersible light dangling about 5' deep. Gold right? Not a bite. Fished minners, jigs, stayed till 1030, not a nibble.

Apparently there is more to night fishing that I thought. But what?

Don't use the lantern.....just use a underwater light....preferably a green one and place it about 4 to 5 ft. deep. If you have not drawn in bait fish to the light in 20-30 minutes then you need to move and set up on another spot.....you have to get the bait fish to come to the light and when you do the crappie will follow.
