You can find an older version of the Navionics chip for bout 100 bucks. Look on the website for the nav chips and see if they updated any of the lakes you fish on and if they haven't, go with a year or 2 old card for half the price
just bought one, what is the best lake chip to put in it? is the 199 dollar one worth the money? i will deceide after hearing you guys thoughts.

Yea, what Don said, and don't spend biggie bucks for the platinum card cause it slows down your 997 , too much information for it to handle at max speed. Good hot maps cards works great & all the information you can use...............

NAVIONICS: The Leader in Electronic Charts
Search under the choices (Platinum, Premium, Hotmaps...all will work in your 997) to see if your lake is listed...and if your lake is listed as a "High definition" lake.....
I agree that Platinum is rumored to slow the units down (eats up processor resources)...
I use the Premium in my 1197...
