    Default G loomis SR781 ?

I saw in the new In fisherman panfish mag that one of their writers said the G Loomis SR781 was the cadillac of panfish rods. Do any of you fish that rod? If so I would like to know your thougts?

    Thanks

I have a couple of them in the boat at all times. I use my BM's most of the time but if I'm getting light bites the Loomis comes out. There is a big differance in sinsitivity.

They are great rods, I have a 781 and a 782, 99% of the time I use the 781. I wish they were both 781s. IMHO rods are like any tool, you get what you pay for.

When and why to do use the 782 instead?

My guess is he uses it for bigger baits and heavier line. The last digit in the model number ("2" in this case) relates to the power of the rod. A "1" is for UL. A "2" would be the next step up in power. I'm sure justinp61 will give you his reasons.

I don't own this model, but I do have two SR 661's -- very nice crappie rods.

GL is a great rod. Hi end , sensitive , tough, and a good warranty. I have been using them for over 40 yrs back when they were custom built. I think that they are not US made now but still a good rod. The St croy is also a good rod not as pricey and US made. I use both.

When I throw heavier jigs, usually in deeper water or if it's real windy.
