Default 17.5 inch crappie photos. Out on a limb

Well these have been the biggest of the season so far for me. They biggest were 15"; 16: and a pig of one at 17.5" Three of us, (Tim, Tony and me) were fishing from the shore at first. we kept casting toward the tree laydown and I kept losing icicles and jigs in the tree as did others. After losing about 20 jigs tony got the bright idea of walking out on the limb and vertical jigging. When he started to catch fish I timidly ventured out on the log itself and also verticle jigged. The tree was in 5' of water and wer were shaking jigs at about 2 feet down in the thickest branches.

We caught several 9 and 10 inch dinks and then some big boys came in. My crappies were caught on red/white icicles. That catfish hit a 2' grey and black minnow. All lures were made by Bob's jigs and tipped with crappie nibbles. It was a great day. I only stayed on the log about an hour til my ankles hurt, but it sure was fun!

WTG there ship and a good example of going the extra distance and finding the gooduns.

By the way I'm curious as to what those icicles you were using looks like.

Yeah. Pretty scary for an old man. Used all my red/cream and several chartreuse ones. Got to rent some scuba gear and go diving to get them back.

I have a red/green icicle in my siggy. You can see them at bobsjigs website Home

    Nice Crappie Ship!

I had a spot way back on this lake that had a lay down a lot like yours, but not near as big and was on a bank with a good drop so I could troll past it just out from it a little and boy it produced a lot of crappie. Shame you guys didn't have a boat so you could just sit off of it a little and hold your jigs right down all around and even out from it a little. That looks like a perfect spot for using one of them power poles that I want.

    Congrats on your catch,

Great trip, Ship. That's going the extra effort to get what you know is there. My knees and back would have kept me on the bank, but there were days..... Did you weigh the big boy? I'll bet he was pushin 3lbs. Real nice fish!!

I sure miss my boat I left in Ohio Skip. We walked over 1/2 mile through the woods to get to that spot from where we parked the truck. All gear had to be in your vest pocket so you could travel light with one pole.
