    Default swival seats in jon boat


    i just got this 14ft jon boat and it has pedistal seats mounted to the benches its not that sterdy so i have seen ppl add wood to the benches and the put the pedistals on the wood what kind of screwws do i use to attach the wood to the bench?

    Catfish, I would use sheetmetal screws, and drill wood out to same size as screws. If you are using the 6 and7/8 in by 6 and 7/8 base I usually go with # 14 by 2 in countersunk heads.They fit the holes in base, and drill small holes in metal bench, just enough to keep from twisting screw off. I use stainless from Lowe's, but they are 5 screws for 4.65 or close to that. Hope that helps.

    Go to your local Lowe's store and look at the "Liquid Nails" in the Paint Department. They make a specific construction adhesives that will attach wood to metal. I would rough up the aluminum seats so the adhesive can get a good grip. Add a few screws and the wood will be good and sturdy.
