Table rock has been slow for crappie the last couple of years but we have been getting reports of people catching them this year. Usually they catch them in the James River area. I will be in the aunts creek area looking for them around Easter so i hope to get some report by then.

Here's the skinny from my reliable friends. Two weeks ago they were on fire. It's been Day to Day the last 10 days. Some days a limit, other days 10 or so. Black and Char around standing pole timber, some moving to the banks on points. Point 15 area has produced the best, but they are getting active down in Piney.

3 - 15 ft. on cloudy days 12-20 in full sun. Tipping with a minnow helps.

I took my grandson yesterday since he was out of school. I usually fish Stockton but decided to go to Viola and put in. I'm not very familiar with the lake there but we went South. I caught a few small dinky males on a orange and chartreuse Mike's Walleye and Crappie jig. Grandson wasnt' doing too good so he wanted to troll like the white bass guys were doing. I handed him a rod with a 3/8 ounce black and silver rattle trap. We trolled about 20 feet and "Granpa, I've got one". I thought "hung up already". The look on his face when he boated the 13 1/2 " crappie made all the dinks and a tough day worth it. We trolled through there for another hour and never caught another one.

Thanks for the information--some funny guys might think I was checking on the carp---but Carppie is the subject. Fished the Rock and guided back several yrs ago but mainly bass----well--all bass---older and smarter looking for more action and some for the cooker---this site is the best yet! Thanks again
