    Default Georgia Giants

Has anyone had any experience with stocking, growing or catching Georgia Giant bream?

I have them stocked in my 5 acre pond. Excellent bream to stock in a pond, fast growing and aggressive. I stocked them 5 years ago when I drained and redid my pond. In the first year they doubled in size, now this was with a feeding program. I have caught several the last couple of years around the 2lb. mark, and I know that they are bigger ones in there, as my daughter hooked one that was as big as a dinner plate, but it broke the 4lb line on her pole. If you have a pond and love to bream fish you can't go wrong with them.

My grandfather stocked his pond with some. I caught one that was over 2 1/2 pounds and kept in my freezer for a while. I was going to mount it until I found out it was a special bread of bream. For some reason, most of the ones we caught had gotten some sort of fungus on them that looked like colly flower. About 3 years after my grandfather stocked the pond, he sold it to a developer and the developer drained the pond to build houses. I have heard that the georgia giants are huge for the first couple of generations but start getting smaller offspring after that.
To heck with work, lets go fishing.

Debra King from the hatchery where they raise Georgia Giants hangs out on www.pondboss.com some. Here is a post where they discuss GG growth rates. http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimate...c;f=5;t=000368
