Performance wise in like models, none. I think the color units are easier to read and see detail, for me anyway...izzy
This is a questions someone put on the thread I started asking about good gps/fish finder. And they ask about what advantage color is over black and white. I'm wondering if color is worth the difference or is it just a pretty picture?? What help does it give to finding fish or brush piles or creek channels??

My thought on this is that sooner or later color is all there will be the other ones will phase out just like these puters these days 5 months or so the one you are using is slower or some crap just my thoughts which doesnt matter much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Color helps you pick out the difference between bush and bottom. Also the different colors will allow you to see different returns that you will never see with black and white.
Also I can swap mine over to a black and white unit also.

ShilohRed...in the picture of your depth finder, one of the 'headings' is Distance, and under that it shows 114 ft. What does that 'distance' refer to? Is it distance to a GPS reading that you are navigating to?
The biggest difference in color vs black and white to me the color is so much easier to see at all times more so in the bright sun. After going to color I will never buy anything else.
Its 114 ft behind the boat. And 22ft to the right of right of the boat.Originally Posted by duke
