live Minnows,,, my number one choice,,,,,,,,,
I have fished quite a few crappie lures and do have a preferance to the tackle I use, so here is a list for the beginner or unexperienced crappie fisherman.
1. Blue Fox Foxee Jig 1/32 oz.pink and white(all time favorite) now
discontinued- but I had a custom mold made SIMILAR to this body.
2. Any brand 1/32 oz Maribou crappie jig, clean the eyes with a dremel tool
and wire wheel. Very cheap (white)
3. Crappie slider 1"- nice lure
4. Teezur jigheads-I was turned onto them here at crappie.com and they
are a very nice jighead, some including double barbs for holding
plastics, slimmer profile head, decent hooks, the 3/32 size is wonderful.
I will note for all the praise these lures get you will notice alot of your jigs
will have the hook crooked and not sticking straight up, but very good for
the money. They can be bought very cheap unpainted w/ stick-on eyes.
5. The Lindy Little Joe/Thill Mini stealth #2 is a must have for the beginner.
It will show lift bits, as well as suttle bites if used correctly. Deadly on
bluegill aslo.
6. 1.5" crappie tubes in an assortment of colors to include-white-chart-green- black or dark-clear glitter-red,bright org, or pink. Many die hard live by
red and white and blue and white. I have had luck with black and
blue glitter recently. Note do not buy or use tube style jighead, not
worth the time retieing when the plastics become missing or torn.
7. Lastly not really a crappie item for me, I always carry Custom jigs and
spins 2-Spots in the smallest size, used with red worms you will
kill the gills also their ratso in black is great for use without worms.
I also use 7-9 foot BNM sam heaton poles, wally marshal poles are not as light or small diameter. I also use UL and micro poles in 4.5 and 5' lengths as well as 12-16' poles
What do you use?

what Rango said
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
Nice to have someone chime in.
We have some wierd requlations here, in Los Angeles You are not allowed to use minnows for bait. I am going to another lake on Saturday where minnows are allowed, and may end up fighing so for the first time.
