Thats is a good ideal. I used one similar to that one but had a cap ont the top. I like your idea better.
This float is 1 1/2 inches long and a package of 3 is about a buck or so. It is made to have the line go through it and peg it in place. Purchased at Wal Mart.
Pull the plastic pin and use a 1/16 drill bit to drill all the way through and how you have a slip float. The plastic pin has a sunken center for perfect drilling.
Next using a straight edge razor or Xacto knife cut a slot the length of the float. Now if you are rigged up you can pull the pin, slip on the float and peg it in place with out having to completely undo everything.

Cool idea, what weight jigs are you using with this
Anything up to a 1/16. I say that because I do not use anything heavier than that.

I'm not grasping it fully....maybe you typed to fast ha ha....what's the purpose of drilling a hole through the center of the peg?? I use those exact floats a lot, and have a decent stock of them....I get the slit down the side but like I said don't understand the peg drill part....is it to save weight???

I guess I am slow too not sure what it is making this better is it a slip float now or a peg float? Why did you cut the side of the float with a razor? I have added weights to a bobber so it sinks easier with a given size jig but not sure what this does.
The hole down the center of the peg makes it a slip float. If you have a jig on and using it to fish the bottom and decide you want to only fish it 24 inches below the surface you can reach inside your tackle box and pull out this float, pull the pin, slip the float over the line, peg it in place and it is that easy. You did not have to take the jig off to add the float.

Thanks for sharing.

so your making it a dual purpose float???....a slip & fixed float.....and for the fixed you dont have to bust off and re-tie to add the float.....very cool idea!!!!....I have used the same ones as slip floats, but I just pulled the plastic plug out and pushed a bead down in the hole in its place....
