    Default Interference on graph

Ok guys I cant seem to figure it out when I step on the trolling motor I get interference on the graph. I just put this 788ci di hd on my boat in the same place I have had my other graph and there was no interference with it, so why now. The graph is NOT connected to the trolling motor batteries. This is on a Triton 186 with a motorguide trolling motor. The interference is just when you first step on the trolling motor.

I had the same thing happen to me after replacing an older b&w Lowrance with a LMS522c. Every time I stepped on the tm the sonar returns would drop out leaving a blank or garbled line scrolling across the screen as long as the tm was activated.

I recall correcting it by some adjustment with the sensitivity settings. It involved just changing the settings from manual over to auto or vice versa.

Adjust sensitivity, and noise, and or surface clutter. Had the same prob, this solved it.

I tried checking the common ground but I dont no how to do it. Its a 24volt tm and there isnt a jumper on the battery from positive to negative it changes up front were the tm plugs in to 24volt.

TO check common ground. Use a multimeter set to read ohms or continuity if possible. place one lead from the multimeter on the ground terminal of the sonar unit. Place the other terminal on the ground of the boat (aka where the ground wire attaches to the boat (usually a bolt and nut)) (put the lead on the bolt not the wires). You should get a significant reading on the meter or a beep. otherwise you have a poor connection some where. If you have any questions please PM me.

I had the same problem on my boat and after much time I found a stinger. A stinger is a wire on stranded wire that is sticking out. It’s not enough to burn out a fuse or make a short but it is enough to put a little currant in to the boat when you put a load on it.

Mine was doing the same thing and i tried several things that didn't help but when i moved the transducer wire that was zip tied to the cables between the foot petal and the head of the tm it started working fine, don't ask me why because i'm not that technical but it did work.

Same thing here : t.m. sonar fine all the time, but Lowrance dash mount - garbled signal once I started using the t.m.
I thought maybe it was stern mounted transducer proximity, though that was never a problem with the old batteries.
Coincidentally, once I installed my new AGM batteries from Cabela's, did the problem crop up.

I mounted a new depthfinder this weekend. The instruction manual had a lengthy discussion about interference from various electric sources. It recommended to run the power wire away from other wiring in the boat. I would try to figure out if this was the cause instead of adjusting the sensitivity settings, IF the graph is working correctly while the TM is not in use.
