Default New to site, Have some questions.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the site but not fishing for crappie. What made me come to this site is to better my fishing. Here in my home town I usually jig for crappie. Mostly with minnows. When I go down to Florida in the spring I'll fish in the shallows with a bobber with minnows. my crappie poles need updated in the worst way. Today I bought a B&M 10' original Buck graphite jig pole. But I'm not sure what reel would work the best and what type of line. My father has poles like this but with the cheap plastic $5.00 reels. They do the trick but I'm one of those guys that can't bring myself to put a 5 dollar reel on a 50 dollar pole. What's a good fishing line? I was thinking 4lbs test but what works better? I do lean towards fluorocarbon. Well, I'll leave it to these few for a while have more questions to ask later. Thanks!

Welcome from Alabama. I have a few Uncle Bucks as well as a Russ Bailey Rod. The rest are Ugly Stick Lites. All are spooled with Trilene clear mono four pound test. I also use Shimano open face or Shakespear open face reels on my stuff. Buy what you can afford and what you have confidence in.

On a jiggin pole all you need is somethin to hold line, I use a small ice fishin spining reel. For line I use Power Pro 10/2 Hi-Vis A 150 yd spool will fill 3 reels. You dont need to fill the spool. With the Hi=Vis you can see when the line gets slack

I like it because it is durable. 6.5' ultra lite. Had some over 10 years.

    Cool Welcome from Texas

I kinda go against the grain but I use Braid and have done well.
8# for casting and 20# Bright orange Suffix.
I may not cut it up north, I may find out someday but I know I've seen
others on here that take light braid seriously up there as well.
No line twist, no stretch and better sensitivity.
I prefer a local rod called ProAngler. Best you can buy for about $38.
Some folks use $240+ rods and I just don't see the need.
I use Wally Marshall & BPS reels on them.
My team just won 1st place, in division 2, last weekend in the 2nd largest crappie club in the US.
We must be doing something right.
    Thumbs Up

I use Berkley IM6 Lightening rods in various lenghts, mostly light, ultra light, and medium light action. Shimano Sedona 2500 reel, and 4 to 6 pound mono, trilene or Berkley. Slip bobber and a #4 hook, with a minnow.
