I am wanting to purchase a new hand held GPS for H2O also. I have researched and talked with other people just wanting more advise. And pro's and con's and one's to walk away from.

Garmin etrex venture HC......go with the HC, it has a color screen, and higher screen resolution. It's as accurate as the Garmin 76csx I have borrowed from a friend for a lot less money. Only thing the 76csx has an electronic compass and it floats.

Stay away from Magellen. I received a Triton as a gift last year and it isn't worth squat. Poor battery life, dismal base map as compared to Garmin unit and speed calculations off as much as 2.2MPH when compared side-by-side with a Garmen eTrex Legend on the boat. Not a huge deal when runnign wide open but means all the word when spider rigging or longlining.
