nim, i didn't know how old the lake was till i just looked. it was filled in 1940. i think being a more southern lake and in more fertile land helps with the growth of fish.

    Good Point.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

Tennessee dont want to spend money on reelfoot either. This lake is slowly going down. One good thing here is thay stopped commercial fishing. Know thay want to tare down the airpark inn. From what i under stand it will be nothing but the boat ramp left. We have almost 300 people that have signed a petition to save the airpark. Its a sad deal.

I have fished for Crappie in a lot of states and here in TN we have what I think is a pretty good Crappie population. TN is also known for Trout fishing but 90 percent of that money comes from the Federal Gov...as does most Trout funding in sates that have Trout. One can read any well known fishing publication printed and they all tell you if you want those huge consistent slabs, in that 2 and 3 pound range...go to certain lakes in Mississipi....Sardis being one of those. Have watched dozens of the well known fishing shows over the years and for a Crappie show you will find them heading to Mississippi. Why they get that size there is open to a lot of speculation...but throwing a lot of money at a lake ain't going to get them that big. I don't know much about Crappie fishing in Arkansas but I do know that TN got it's first stocking of Black Nose Crappie from Arkansas when several hundred thousand were put into Center Hill Lake many years back. Even though it is a sub species of the Black Crappie they are just now starting to show up in our other lakes...Kentucky..Percy Priest...Old Hickory. There are not many of them caught and the size of them is really nothing to brag about. Now those that are in Center Hill are another story. My nephew guides there and when he catches them they are all usually one and a half to a little over 2 pounds each. There is a limit of 15 and you fish for them in the Winter and it is done...finished. I don't mind being able to catch 12 to 14 inch Crappie year round and would love to bring home 30 fish that are 2 to 3 pounds but that is not likely to ever be the case. My mom taught me to fish back in the early 60's and 12 inch Crappie in most of those lakes were considered huge. There were no limits and no size limit. People would take home 60 to 100 fish but usually 7 to 9 inches and lots of times even smaller. I think Crappie fishing in TN has come a long way for the better an I am glad for it.
