Spider riggin...0.1 to 0.6mph...keeping baits as verticle as possible..easier to do on calm days...

Long lining....0.7 to 2.0mph...baits trailing behind the boat...can be done on windier days..cover more water in less time..

I spider rigged for 15-20yrs. It is a productive way to fish when conditions are right. I recently, 5yrs ago, learned to longline. It will take alot to get me to go back to spider. Boat control is never an issue. Wind is NOT an issue as I have fished successfully in 3' rollers whitecapping (although not too comfortably). Hookups/missed fish is a non issue. And it is WAY more fun!

What is long long lineing? You let a buch of line out or what. I am proficient in Spider Rigging...not sure about the other. Please explain.

You are correct.....the lines are trailing behind the boat as you troll...

The amount of line you have out....the weight of the jig...the line diameter...and the boat speed will determine how deep those jigs are "trolling" in the water column....

just don't think I would like to try and keep anywhere from 4-8 rods (or more) straight and watch them so i wouldn't miss a bite, sounds like work to me, and I go fishin' to go fishin', not to work. LOL. Lots of guys apparently love it as they spend the $$ to get the right gear to do it, and do it well. Just not for me. I long line and nothin' else. Don't think I could sit anchored over a tree and wait on sumpin' to bite my hook. LOL but to each their own. Not slammin' any spider riggers either.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
