    Default Spider Rigging Weights?

New to Spider Rigging. I got the HiTek Holders, PST 14's and making my on Capps and Coleman Rigs. My question is can you use 1 oz weights to fish shallow water at .3 to .5 mph or these to big and spook the fish or should I only use 1/2 oz even though my line stays vertical at these speeds. Thanks in advance.

You can, but most use lighter weight the shallower you go. I fish 1/2 oz most all the time since we rarely fish over 12' deep. I guess you changed you mind about coming to fish with me?

At that speed you won't need that much weight. 1/4 to 3/8 max.

I put one oz. weights on when I first started spider rigging a few years ago and have never seen a reason to change 'em. My weight is on the bottom with hooks/jigs on loop knots above the weights. I've fished in 3' of water without spooking fish so I guess they'll work. I like the heavier weights because my lines stay verticle, although I hardly ever go faster than .3 mph.

1/4 to 1/2 in shallow water and have used 3/4 in deeper water but prefer to stay around 1/2oz.

I use 1 oz. in all depths. One reason is that the heavier weight can help you bump loose snags. When I'm hunting fish I might start in 25 ft of water and end up in 3-4ft. Spider rigging is enough trouble without having to change rigs!
