I dont think you would cast very far with a 2ft. rod
Anyone ever tried casting small jigs with ice fishing tackle?
Few reasons I ask. I fish from kayaks sometimes. Short tackles is very handy either fishing or storing. Also I bream fish it tight spots short tackle would save some 4 letter words

Most of my ice rods were 20 to 36 inches long,we used 1 and 2 # line . They were made from fly rod tips ,cork handle and you were good to go. They had a slower action to cushion the shock of a hookset. A 30 to 48 inch rod would work great in tight quarters. I have landed 6 # walleys and trout up to 10lbs on 2 lb maxima line............Granite
Just make sure the reel`s drag has some guts; have literally "SMOKED" a couple that didn`t....heck of a fight losing line while it lasted, though!
One more thing to consider: ice tackle is not designed for casting. It's fine when you're sitting on top of a hole in the ice. Setting the hook is easy in that situation. You just jerk straight up. For casting jigs, however, the short rod length will make it harder to get a solid hookset. It will also cut your casting distance.
Alas, true...and you just don`t have any real lenght to fight much, almost all the load`s on the reel`s drag; hook a bigger fish and that drag had BETTER be a good one...
