    Won`t say won`t work, just a soft wood, not much longevity underwater; compareable to christmas trees...

    Poplar is only a soft wood if you don't haveta cut it. ha....... I gotta bunch of tulip poplar in West Sandy. Clean up after storms. Been out 4 years or so. Still there too.

    Am not saying won`t work, simple fact is generally, ANYTHING is better than NOTHING...Christmas trees at best only last 3-4 yrs in most lakes...
