Submersible Fishing Lights

Has anyone used battery operated, submersible, green led fishing lights for night crappie fishing? How deep should you sink them and do you fish right through the bright area or around the edges of the lighted area?

I have not tried them yet . I was thinking of making my own though using some of these PCB series led lamps.

I have used both white and green, about 18" to 2' down then fish the edges just below the lighted area. That was from a pier, you can drop them down more in deeper water.

Thanks everyone for your input. I purchased an Optronics battery operated light online and found a Berkley at Walmart. I checked them out last Friday night to compare them. The Berkley was the brightest, smallest, and a little heavier than the Optronics. The Berkeley sank with only a 2 ounce sinker while the bigger Optronics took 10 ounces to sink it. I recommend the Berkley; it is smaller, brighter, and better built. I can't wait to find the night crappie.

If it is this one Light - Floating | Berkley Fishing It is a Incandescent light and they eat alot of juice, My boat motor is a pull start so I have no way to charge the battery + incans blow to easy. It would seem that using a ballast and fluorescent light bulb set up would use alot of current too.
I'm still on the fince with this because parts are so high..
